Initiée aux Pays-Bas en 2017, la démarche est gérée par le groupement TOMP Working Group (TOMP-WG) basé aux Pays-Bas. Le standard TOMP-API a été publié en 2020 et compte environ100 implémentations (nov. 2021) en Europe et en Australie notamment.

Les spécificités de la démarche :

- L’une des démarches de standardisation d’interfaces les plus abouties dans le monde : stable, avec une adoption en forte croissance et une réputation bien établie dans l’écosystème.

- Démarche européenne à forte traction y compris internationale.

- Les membres de la démarche associent explicitement leur trajectoire de succès au choix de l’ouverture (voir citations ci-dessous). TOMP-API est représentatif d’une standardisation ouverte : processus ouvert et transparent, unecommunauté autonome et volontaire dans la création du meilleur standard possible pour le secteur, accès ouvert à tous et gratuit, adoption organique, coopération avec les autres standards MaaS.
