Description : The problem : Unemployment rates in Angola are high and the transport system remains mainly private with expensive prices, insecurity and .

The solution : Founded in 2018 by Emerson Paim, Kubinga is a peer to peer ridesharing platform operating in Luanda in Angola. Available on Android and iOS, Kubinga app provides some features like on-demand drive, GPS tracking or delivery through Kubinga express (objects and parcels transporting service). Like Uber, Payment is ensured via credit card.

State of development : Almost 50 registered drivers, 4,300 downloads and 4,500 paid rides in Luanda since its launch.

Business model: Kubinga takes a commission on each completed rides.

Ambitions: Kubinga wants to expand to four other regions in Angola (Huila, Huambo, Benguela and Namibe) and to other African Portuguese-Speaking countries. Kubinga associated with a merchandise delivery service which transports domestic cleaning products from a factory straight to the client.

Achievements: Kubinga won of the Angolan leg of the Seedstars competition in 2018.

Within the context of Urban Transport in Africa : Kubinga is an Uber model app in a country with thirteen million people using mobile phones, and with no other real taxi app active in the market except Allo taxi. Therefore Kubinga has a serious growth potential in the region.

Appreciation: Kubinga has a simple, efficient but also scalable model which empowers Angolans with the freedom of mobility. In a congested city without a proper public transport system like Luanda’s, ride sharing is one of the best way to reduce cars and negative impacts on climate.
