Description : The problem : Most people in Abidjan face daily congestion and high transport prices. Unavailability of a solid transport offer, hygiene and comfort problems as well as random hours make it uneasy to commute in Abidjan.
The solution : Founded in 2017 by Mao Aka Nadine, DigiTRANS, is a carpooling service that connects passengers and drivers, and allows you to travel to Abidjan at a lower cost. Available on Android and iOS devices, DigiTRANS allow people to share a ride in all the districts of Abidjan. Commuters and Drivers have the possibility to grade one another. Insurance is also available if desired by commuters in case of an car accident and it is charged 50 XOF per day and per commuter. For companies, DigiTRANS B2B will be launched at the end of November 2019 to also provide transport services to companies (event, conferences, daily shuttle). 2 companies are already interested.
State of development : After some development difficulties regarding culture gaps, application functionalities and existing mobility habits, DigiTRANS is still in a development process like users geolocation for example. 5000 people are currently registered in the platform with 250 active commuters regularly commuting and giving feedbacks but matching drivers and commuters is the main problem as number of commuters is way bigger than drivers’ in some districts. To resolve this problem, 2 account managers work on informing them of a possible match in real time. DigiTRANS Team is composed of a general manager, 2 developers, 1 head engineer and 2 account manager.
Funds raised: Self funded
Business model: Since the launch DigiTRANS doesn’t earn any money. After 2 years, it plans to allow passengers to pay online through the application or directly to the drivers
Ambitions: DigiTRANS wishes to be known and used by a majority of Ivorians in Abidjan and big cities of Cote d’Ivoire and then be duplicated in the West African region.
Within the context of Shared Mobility in Africa : Many carpooling solutions have tried to transpose the French Blablacar system in Africa and have failed. DigiTRANS is an interesting carpooling solution that is constantly reviewing and readapting its solution to better satisfy Ivorians and studying their needs of mobility. NB: DigiTRANS is prepared to operate at loss for the next two years.
Appreciation: Raising awareness of shared mobility is one of the main focus of DigiTRANS which understood that Ivorians and African in general tend not to trust various aspects of digital carpooling services.
