Description : The problem : Heavy traffic congestion, insufficient transport services and unpredictable high pricing are ones of the major issues in Lagos and most big cities in Africa. High capacity transport and Rapid transit modes are needed eventhough in Lagos, some effort have been made such as railway services renovation and BRT lines openings.

The solution : Founded in 2015 by Damilola Olokesusi, Busola Majekodunmi and Damilola Quadry Shuttlers is a ride sharing platform operating in Lagos since 2016 that allows professionals, companies, fun-seekers access comfortable, safe, efficient yet affordable transportation to & from work and around the city through bus-pooling. Through this Android platform, commuters can easily book seats, pay and track arrival departure times of their shuttles. For businesses and events, Shuttlers provides minivans with comfortable commodities such as air conditioning and Wifi. It also gives the possibility to track expense through a corporate wallet in order to split the money across all team members. Moreover, Shuttlers rides are charged at 60-80 percent lower than ride-hailing services, making them competitive with regular ride-hailing services in Lagos.

State of development : In 3 years, Shuttlers has done over 75,000 trips, running along 200 routes and boasts a fleet of 50+ fully air-conditioned buses on their platform for their daily shuttles, travel shuttles, event shuttles and church shuttles. In August 2019, Shuttlers launched « SHE MOVES » program supported by the Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford Motor Company in partnership with Global Water Challenge (GWC). This project aims to give female professionals learning and development online courses provided by Google skills for Africa and access mentors from the WomenWill community and peer-to-peer support while stuck in traffic during long commutes.

Business model: Shuttlers charges trips to commuters.

Ambitions: Shuttlers wants to expand its activities throughout major cities in Nigeria.

Achievements: In 2017, Shuttlers won Top 3 at Unreasonable Labs Demo Day, the 2017 Award for Digital & Tech category at the Women in Tech Africa Contest in Morocco and a national award for Best Idea at the Aso Villa Demo Day 2017.

Within the context of Shared Mobility in Africa : Shuttlers is not only the first car pooling in Nigeria but also the first all-female funded tech -based transportation service in Nigeria. Such initiatives are highly to be encouraged and funded in Africa as traffic congestion is far from being stopped.

Appreciation: Considering how competitive the transport sector has become Africa these past few years Shuttlers chose to develop an high quality e-hailing solution that strongly contribute to reduce traffic and air pollution absorbing 14 to 29 cars from the road for each trip.
