Description : The problem : The endless queue in African car stations, lack of informations about departures and unavailable seats when going to the stations are major problems in the passenger transport industry.

The solution : mTick is an e-ticketing platform and mobile app for car trips across Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Mali. Launched in 2016 by Bill DIARA and Olivier COULIBALY, a product of their startup GENKOBA, mTick is available online and on a Android phone through Google Playstore. To book a ticket, customers simply need to go to the platform or the mobile application, enter departure and destination location as well as the date and hour and then pay through Orange Money, MTN Money , Mood Money, or Flooz and receive their ticket via sms or mail. mTick is available 24/7 and provide informations on commodity and prices of car trips. Agents are present on stations to help and assist passengers and a phone assistance is also available.

State of development : Since its launch mTick partnered with 9 carriers and allow customers to travel around 60 cities in Cote d’Ivoire and beyond, to Lome, Cotonou and Dakar. It has settled its office in Mali, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. mTick has currently deployed its activities in Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Niger and Sierra Leone and registered 60 000 users. In Yamoussoukro, mTick associated with National Polytechnic Institute to allow students to order a car for common destinations mTick team is composed of around ten people and currently is working on the deployment of mTick in Senegal.

Funds raised: Self funded with debt and love money (around 100 000 €).

Business model: A subscription commission charged to carriers which includes the design and implementation of tickets, the supply of equipment for sales and control, team training and access to a complete monitoring dashboard for the carrier. A second option concerns non subscribed carriers which only gives carriers access to a basic implementation and some KPIs.

Ambitions: mTick ambitionss to have an administrative and commercial presence in West Africa by covering both corridors, create 200 direct jobs in 2 years and 5000 indirect jobs over the next 5 years.

Achievements: mTick was BC Innovation Laureate "Rebranding Africa and Selected by Microsoft BizSpark (free hosting for 3 years). It came 2nd at the "Orange Challenge Developer" Côte d'Ivoire - 2016 edition.

Within the context of Digital solutions in Africa : Less than 10 digital solutions towards transport eticketing exist in Africa but mTick comparative advantage remains the closeness to carriers through partnership, mobile money payement and and an Android application to facilitate the intermediation and availability of transport tickets.

Appreciation: mTick has a high value potential for African transport solutions as it gained major Ivorian carriers’ trust notably while thinking beyond national market and expanding to different African countries. It also relies on quality of service to guaranty the satisfaction of clients.
