Short Description: The motivation was to provide an open source, extensible driving simulator for the development community. While there are multiple potential uses, the primary goal was to create an application to assist in the development and testing of IVI systems

Description: GENIVI's goal is to define a standardized common software platform. GENIVI was launched in 2009 with a mission of driving the broad adoption of an In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) open-source development platform. (for more on the IVI platform, see What).  The code behind this platform comes from three main sources:Upstream projects where the required functionality is already built (e.g., kernel.org)Upstream projects where a good starting point for required functionality exists upon which GENIVI can build additional automotive functionality (e.g., connman.net)GENIVI member projects where IVI code is developed because nothing is available in the open source community as a good starting point.GENIVI is not a product, but aims to produce a range of compliance statements, and a compliance programme for GENIVI certification. To aid this, GENIVI is producing a reference platform to enable members to develop ideas quickly.
